ARS Retail System Version 5 Specifications

This software is developed as a 32 bit  version of our system for use with the Microsoft Windows 2000/XP/2003 Server. Installed devices will require Windows 2000/XP/2003 Server drivers for most of the peripheral components to be used with our applications. The general specification listed below may include devices that are not supported by our technical support staff.  For device that are supported by ARS view the Peripheral Device option.

IMS (Backroom) System

All report printers must be have a installed Windows Printer Driver!   Parallel or USB interfaces are supported. Please contact our support department with any question regarding a certain printer model.

Support for label printing using a matrix dot printer has been implemented for backward compatibility. Matrix dot printers must be set to Epson, IBM mode or permanent 17cpi settings.

PDT/PDA Scanner Requirements:
Any PDT/PDA’s (portable data terminal/portable data assistant) that are not included in this list must have an interface written for them by ARS. Contact your ARS representative for details.

PDA's require 802.11b and a internet browser function. The server requires the .Net Framework to be installed along with a wireless access point.

Point-of-Sale Options

The ARS system is distributed with support for most touchmonitors without an additional charge.

Credit Card & Check Processing:

  • Dialcard (external modem com1 or com2 only)
  • Protobase Gateway
  • Magnetic card reader (track 2 or track 1&2)
  • Verifone Pinpad 1000 (Serial - com1 or com2 only using DUKPT encryption)

Pinpads must be sent to Vital Encryption Center. Use the Vital Merchant Service Pinpad Injection Request Form for instructions. Pin Pads must be connected to the com port before it is plugged in or it may lose the encryption.
